Dr. M. Narendra is a distinguished leader in Indian banking and served as Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). During his tenure, he led the bank through a phase of rapid expansion, significantly enhancing both its international presence and domestic branch network. Under his stewardship, the bank earned several accolades, including the National Award for Excellence in MSME Lending for two consecutive years, underscoring his strong commitment to financial inclusion and the growth of small-scale industries. His emphasis on Total Quality Management and technology-driven banking played a crucial role in modernizing operations and strengthening the bank’s competitive position. 

Prior to his leadership at IOB, Dr. Narendra built a distinguished career spanning over three decades at Corporation Bank, where he rose from an officer trainee to the position of Chief General Manager. He later served as Executive Director at Bank of India, where he was instrumental in revamping credit appraisal systems and introducing a structured business segment approach to banking. 

A respected expert in financial systems, Dr. Narendra has contributed to policy and regulatory discussions through his association with the Reserve Bank of India, including serving on its Technical Advisory Committee. In recognition of his significant contributions to the banking sector, he has been conferred the honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) by multiple universities, reflecting his stature as both an accomplished practitioner and a thought leader in finance.
