Shri S. S. Kohli is a distinguished senior banker with an extensive and accomplished career in India’s banking and financial services sector. He has served as Chairman and Managing Director of leading institutions, including Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited, and Small Industries Development Bank of India. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening banking operations, advancing infrastructure financing, and fostering institutional development across these organizations. Shri Kohli also served as Chairman of the Indian Banks' Association for two terms, reflecting the high regard in which he is held within the banking fraternity.

During his tenure at Punjab National Bank, Shri Kohli is widely credited with leading a comprehensive transformation of the bank into a technologically advanced institution. He spearheaded the implementation of core banking solutions, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and customer service, and positioned the bank as a leading nationalised bank in terms of assets and profitability during that period. 

 He has also contributed to the wider financial ecosystem through his role as a board member of reputed institutions, including PTC India Financial Services Ltd and Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC), among others. 

 In addition to his executive roles, Shri Kohli has chaired several high-level committees for the Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India on critical policy and sectoral issues. These include committees on SME financing and the rehabilitation of distressed small industries, frameworks for defining and addressing wilful defaults, and strategies for human resource development in the banking sector.
