Prof Savita Roy

Prof. Savita Roy is a renowned academician and researcher. She is currently serving her second term as Principal of Daulat Ram College (DRC), University of Delhi. Reappointed in December 2024, her leadership has spanned over 11 years, during which she has transformed DRC into a premier women’s institution known for academic excellence, research innovation, and holistic development.

 Prof. Roy is an expert in Physics and Astrophysics, with specialized expertise in nanotechnology and electronics. She holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Delhi, an M.Sc. in Physics (Electronics) from the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi, and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics from Miranda House, University of Delhi. 

Under her administration, DRC has achieved significant milestones:

• Institutional Excellence: Guided the college to NAAC A+ accreditation and a top-30 ranking in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). 

• Research & Innovation: Established the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Startup Cell (EISC) in 2022–23 and initiated multiple skill development centers to foster student innovation. 

• Modernization: Oversaw the development of advanced facilities, including a state-of-the-art gymnasium, an automated library with Braille resources, and specialized research labs such as the Zebrafish Lab Facility. 

• Holistic Campus Growth: Introduced the "Centre for Happiness" and expanded the North East Cell to create an inclusive and supportive campus environment. Beyond her college leadership, Prof. Roy contributes extensively to higher education governance: 

• University Governance: Member of the Executive Council and Academic Council of the University of Delhi. • National Advisory Roles: President’s Nominee for Manipur Central University and member of the Academic Advisory Committee at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. 

• Professional Associations: Secretary of the Delhi University Principal’s Association and the Indian Colleges Forum (North India). An accomplished researcher, Prof. Roy has published over 28 papers and holds two patents, with work focusing on the synthesis and applications of nanostructures. Notable publications include: 

• Synthesis of gallium arsenide nanostructures for solar cell applications (Materials Letters, 2020) 

 • Synthesis of nano-diamond-like carbon for protective optical window coating applications (2021) 

 • Fabrication of gold nanostructures and studies of their morphological and surface plasmonic properties (Plasmonics, 2013) She is also a co-author of the book Food Production, Diversity, and Safety Under Climate Change (Springer, 2024), further reflecting her interdisciplinary contributions to science and education. Prof. Roy’s visionary leadership, commitment to research excellence, and focus on student development have firmly established her as a transformative figure in Indian higher education.
